My grandma, Dorothy Collins, (nee Bregazzi) was Emma Rosina's grandaughter. She always told me that she heard that Emma had gone off and left Carl. It was said that he was nasty to her and she just up and left. My grandma still found that hard to believe she would do that, leaving four small children like that. She had thoughts that perhaps he had "done her in", as there never seemed to be any trace of her from the day she left.

I am curious about this "disappearance" because there just doesn't seem to be any record of her remarriage or death. I am beginning to wonder now if the clue lies around her brother, Frederick, as surely he would know if his sister had just "disappeared" or whether she still kept in contact with her family. It just seems so strange that if she did keep in contact with them, how is it she never contacted her own children again?

My grandparents' Golden Wedding Anniversary do was held at Ye Old Gate House in Highgate, London in about 1979 and that is where Grandma met up with her Aunt Gertie, who was the only survivor of the brothers and sisters. Of course, she was the youngest, not the eldest as I erroneously mentioned in my earlier email.
